Gardenfest! returned to beautiful Riverside Park, Vero Beach, Florida, on the weekend of January 31 and February 1, 2009. The weather was cool and breezy on Saturday but the crowds came and when the temperature increased to about 70 degrees on Sunday, the park was full. Estimates place the event’s total number well over last year’s 20,000+ visitors.

Over 70 vendors displayed their yard and garden products with emphasis on "green" - living trees, bushes, orchids, roses, herbs, butterfly plants, palms, ferns plus furniture, pottery, iron items, fountains, lighting and many other items and services of interest. Children made wind chimes at our Youth Activities tent, La Petite Quartet entertained in our luncheon area during mid-day each day and hungry shoppers filled the dining tables enjoying the great variety of grilled foods.

Our "Ask the Experts" area provided gardening advice both days. Thanks to our experts: Paige Younge, Dominic Lettiere, Steve Metz, Dennis Cathcart, Paul Price, Spencer Porteous and Chris Runge for sharing their knowledge.

Gardenfest! was hosted for the 8th year by the Garden Club of Indian River County. The proceeds support the club and its many civic projects, which recently include scholarships for Indian River County students at the UF-IFAS campus in Ft. Pierce, landscaping the historic Hallstrom House, rebuilding the ARC greenhouse and support of the Gifford Youth Activity Garden. Our nine circles also have ongoing civic projects benefiting the community.
